Charles A. Kern

	Charles A. Kern, 90, of Edwardsville, formerly of DuQuoin, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 12:45 p.m. in Edwardsville.
	Upon his retirement in 1963 from RAMAPO AJAX CO., a  division of American Brake Shoe Co., he began working as a custodian at LeClaire School, retiring in 1976.  In the early 1960's Mr. Kern transported handicapped children in Edwardsville School District #7.  
	He enjoyed bowling and gardening.
	He was born December 4, 1911 in DuQuoin, the son of Adam and Emma (Newborn) Kern.  He married Dorothy (Slate) Kern on April 24, 1935 in Metropolis and she preceded him in death on April 23, 1987.
	Surviving are one daughter, June Weber and husband Duane of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Mark Weber of Beeville, Tex., Ross (Wife Cheryl) Weber of Edwardsville, Karl (Wife Dawn) Weber of St. Peter's, Mo. and Lt. Col. Lindsay Weber of Montgomery, Ala.; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Joshua, Anthony, Kyle, Bailey and Karissa; brother-in-law, Cecil Slate and numerous nieces and nephews.  
	He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
	Private graveside services were held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin with Monsignor Harry Jerome officiating.  
	There was a private family visitation.
	Memorials may be given to the American Parkinson's Disease Association or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital c/o Weber Funeral Home, 304 N. Main, Edwardsville, IL  62025.
